The 4-2 Fused Adder-Subtractor Compressor for Low-Power Butterfly-Based Hardware Architectures

Bianca Silveira et al.

Summary: Research on a new fused adder-subtractor (FAS) 4-2 compressor arithmetic operator, which can enhance the power-efficiency of butterfly-based architectures by performing addition and subtraction simultaneously. The proposed FAS 4-2 architecture shows power and circuit area savings compared to state-of-the-art circuit, with improvements in power-efficiency from 5.8% to 10% on average when compared to conventional adder compressors.

Low-power fast Fourier transform hardware architecture combining a split-radix butterfly and efficient adder compressors

Guilherme Ferreira et al.

Summary: Fast Fourier transform (FFT) is a common low-complexity implementation of the discrete Fourier transform widely used in smart sensors for processing real-world signals in the Internet of Things. A low-power FFT hardware architecture combining split-radix butterfly and 5-2 adder compressors is proposed, which is 13.28% more power efficient than the radix-4 approach. The proposal saves up to 43.1% of total power dissipation compared to the state-of-the-art radix-4 butterfly by combining 5-2 adder compressors within the split-radix butterfly.

Exploring NLMS-Based Adaptive Filter Hardware Architectures for Eliminating Power Line Interference in EEG Signals

Andrei B. La Rosa et al.

Summary: Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a key biomedical technique for capturing electrical information of the human brain. Challenges in EEG system design include ultra-low signal amplitude and susceptibility to interference. Investigation into adaptive filtering techniques for protecting against interference shows normalized LMS filters offer the best tradeoff between eliminating noise and energy consumption.

A Robust and Power-Efficient Power Line Interference Canceling VLSI Design

Morgana da Rosa et al.

Summary: This work proposes a low power dissipation VLSI hardware architecture for a robust power line interference canceling (PLIC). By combining optimized adaptive filters LMS and HG's hardware architecture, the PLIC VLSI structure effectively suppresses interferences in both ECG and EEG signals, with significant power and area savings compared to the state-of-the-art solution.
