Analysis of Survival Benefits of Living Versus Deceased Donor Liver Transplant in High Model for End-Stage Liver Disease and Hepatorenal Syndrome

Tiffany Cho-Lam Wong et al.

Summary: The study found that living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) reduced waitlist mortality and increased transplant rate for patients with MELD > 25. LDLT group had significantly higher 5-year overall survival rate compared to deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT) group.

Renal Recovery After Liver Transplantation Alone in Patients With Liver Cirrhosis and Severe Chronic Kidney Disease With Normal Kidney Size

Soon Bae Kim et al.

Summary: This study found a high percentage of renal recovery after liver transplantation in patients with liver cirrhosis and severe chronic kidney disease. Using kidney size as a criteria, patients with smaller kidneys (<9 cm) had lower rates of renal recovery. Therefore, performing liver transplantation alone is more reasonable for patients with normal kidney size.
