Relationship between ground reaction force and throwing arm kinetics in high school and collegiate pitchers

Kristen F. Nicholson et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between ground reaction forces (GRF) and kinetics of the throwing arm in high school and collegiate baseball pitchers. The results showed that only drive leg medial force was significantly correlated with maximum shoulder external rotation torque, while maximum elbow valgus torque was not correlated with any GRF variables. Furthermore, ball speed was only weakly correlated with stride leg medial force. There were no significant differences in GRFs between high school and college pitchers. Other factors such as muscle strength, coordination, kinematics, or stride technique may overshadow the effects of GRF in highly skilled pitchers, suggesting the need for further investigation. Understanding this relationship is important for enhancing performance and avoiding injury.

Hip Abduction Strength: Relationship to Trunk and Lower Extremity Motion During A Single-Leg Step-Down Task in Professional Baseball Players

M. Christopher Zipser et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between hip abduction isometric strength and movement during the single-leg step down task. The results showed that in pitchers, increased hip abduction torque weakly correlated with decreased knee valgus on the lead leg, and with decreased pelvic drop on the trail leg.
