The burden of disease in early schizophrenia - a systematic literature review

Benedicto Crespo-Facorro et al.

Summary: The burden of schizophrenia is significant even in the early stages of the disease, with early schizophrenia patients facing challenges such as higher mortality rates, psychiatric comorbidities, poor social functioning, and unemployment. Comparisons with chronic schizophrenia show a greater burden with longer disease duration, while the burden compared to other psychiatric disorders remains inconclusive. Additional research is needed to further quantify the burden of chronic schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders.

Multimodal Machine Learning Workflows for Prediction of Psychosis in Patients With Clinical High-Risk Syndromes and Recent-Onset Depression

Nikolaos Koutsouleris et al.

Summary: This study successfully predicted psychosis transitions in patients with CHR or ROD using multimodal machine learning, achieving high accuracy. By combining human and algorithmic risk estimates in a sequential prognostic model, personalized prevention of psychosis can be enhanced.

Associations Between Schizophrenia Polygenic Liability, Symptom Dimensions, and Cognitive Ability in Schizophrenia

Sophie E. Legge et al.

Summary: The study found that in patients with schizophrenia, disorganized symptoms and cognitive ability are associated with genetic liability to schizophrenia, while cognitive ability is also related to genetic risk for intelligence.

Structural and Functional Brain Parameters Related to Cognitive Performance Across Development: Replication and Extension of the Parieto-Frontal Integration Theory in a Single Sample

Ruben C. Gur et al.

Summary: The parieto-frontal integration theory (PFIT) has been found to correlate brain parameters with cognitive performance, with stronger associations observed as individuals age, particularly in females. Additionally, an extended PFIT network may include other brain regions that support motivation and affect, optimizing neural tissue while maintaining a low resting energy state.
