Clinical and radiologic characteristics of symptomatic pregnant women with COVID-19 pneumonia

Taha Yusuf Kuzan et al.

Summary: This study described the radiological features of pregnant women infected with COVID-19, showing high sensitivity of imaging modalities involving ionizing radiation for diagnosis. The study also found a significantly increased rate of preterm birth and cesarean section among these patients.

Maternal and perinatal outcomes of pregnant women with SARS-CoV-2 infection at the time of birth in England: national cohort study

Ipek Gurol-Urganci et al.

Summary: This study found that SARS-CoV-2 infection at the time of birth is associated with higher rates of adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes, including fetal death, preterm birth, preeclampsia, and emergency cesarean delivery. Pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2 should be prioritized for vaccination to reduce these risks.

Development and Validation of a Web- Based Severe COVID-19 Risk Prediction Model

Sang H. Woo et al.

Summary: The study reviewed data from 415 COVID-19 patients and established a prediction model based on eight predictors identified by multivariable logistic regression. The models showed excellent discriminative ability for predicting severe COVID-19 and mortality, and have been incorporated into a mobile-friendly website for bedside use.

Early High-Titer Plasma Therapy to Prevent Severe Covid-19 in Older Adults

R. Libster et al.

Summary: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of convalescent plasma with high IgG titers against SARS-CoV-2 in older adult patients within 72 hours after the onset of mild Covid-19 symptoms found that early administration of high-titer convalescent plasma reduced the progression of Covid-19 in mildly ill infected older adults.

Summary: The study reveals that obesity increases the risk of severe COVID-19 illness, with the lowest risk near the threshold between healthy weight and overweight on the BMI scale. Overweight and obesity are risk factors for invasive mechanical ventilation.

The incidence, characteristics and outcomes of pregnant women hospitalized with symptomatic and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in the UK from March to September 2020: A national cohort study using the UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS)

Nicola Vousden et al.

Summary: The study identified factors that increase the risk of symptomatic and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnancy. Clinicians can be reassured that the majority of women do not experience severe complications of SARS-CoV-2 in pregnancy. Cesarean birth rates and neonatal unit admission rates were increased for pregnant women with symptomatic and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2. The risks of stillbirth or neonatal death were not significantly increased.
