JARID2haploinsufficiency is associated with a clinically distinct neurodevelopmental syndrome

Eline A. Verberne et al.

Summary: This study confirms JARID2 as a human disease gene and further elucidates the associated clinical phenotype. Results from 16 individuals suggest that deletions or variants in JARID2 may lead to developmental delay and/or intellectual disability.

African genetic diversity and adaptation inform a precision medicine agenda

Luisa Pereira et al.

Summary: African populations have rich genetic diversity and a long evolutionary history, but recent exposures to new pathogens and lifestyle changes may lead to health risks from certain genetic variants. African genomic studies offer highly valuable insights into the genomics and molecular basis of health and disease, but limited research on African populations globally hinders the applicability of precision medicine approaches.

Novel SCN9A Mutations in a Compound Heterozygous Girl with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain

Bas Stunnenberg et al.

Summary: Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP) is a rare disorder characterized by the inability to perceive pain due to bi-allelic inactivating mutations in the SCN9A gene. Patients with CIP cannot feel pain from noxious stimuli, but all other sensory modalities function normally. A patient with CIP caused by compound heterozygous SCN9A mutations has been reported, expanding the spectrum of mutations associated with this condition.
