Oesophageal hypervigilance and visceral anxiety relate to reflux symptom severity and psychological distress but not to acid reflux parameters

Ming-Wun Wong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the interrelationship between the oesophageal hypervigilance and anxiety scale (EHAS) and various factors in patients with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Results showed that EHAS was significantly correlated with GERDQ, questionnaires of depression, and anxiety. However, there were no significant correlations between GERDQ and questionnaires of depression or anxiety, indicating the potential of EHAS assessment in evaluating subjective patient outcomes and treatment satisfaction.
