Cost-effectiveness of HIV screening in emergency departments: a systematic review

Ari Mwachofi et al.

Summary: In 2016, there were 1.8 million new HIV infections worldwide with 14 million unaware of their status, posing risk for further transmission. HIV screening in the emergency department (ED) is cost-effective based on cost-effectiveness and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios below CDC thresholds. This suggests that widespread implementation of ED-based HIV screening can be an effective tool in combating HIV/AIDS.
