Can Seaweed Extract Improve Yield and Quality of Brewing Barley Subjected to Different Levels of Nitrogen Fertilization?

Eugenio Cozzolino et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that reducing nitrogen inputs combined with the application of plant-based biostimulants such as seaweed extract can improve barley yield and nitrogen use efficiency. In the experiment, 40 kg N ha(-1) (N40) was sufficient to reach the plateau of the highest production, and the application of biostimulants significantly improved barley growth parameters.

Contribution of functional genomics to identify the genetic basis of water-deficit tolerance in barley and the related molecular mechanisms

Mohamed Amine Marok et al.

Summary: Drought is an increasing environmental constraint on agricultural production, and genetic improvement for drought tolerance in crops, such as barley, is a critical challenge for breeders. Recent advances in functional genomics have identified candidate genes in barley germplasm collections that play roles in drought tolerance mechanisms. The use of sequencing technology, mass spectrometry, and bioinformatics tools allows for the identification of promising loci for breeders to improve barley responses to drought.
