Process Development for Edible Film Preparation Using Avocado Seed Starch: Response Surface Modeling and Analysis for Water-Vapor Permeability

R. Ramesh et al.

Summary: Starch-based edible films, using avocado seed starch, were developed and studied for their water-vapor permeability (WP). The increase in Tween-20 and sorbitol content was found to reduce the WP of the film. Response surface analysis and Pareto analysis of variance were used to determine the significant impact of process factors on WP.

Integrated lignocellulosic biorefinery: Gateway for production of second generation ethanol and value added products

Amisha Patel et al.

Summary: The increasing demand for alternative renewable resources due to depleting petroleum sources has brought attention to lignocellulosic biomass as a potential source for second generation ethanol and value-added products. Efficient utilization of all three components of lignocellulosic biomass and the importance of pretreatment methods and biorefinery processes are key factors in the economic viability of cellulosic ethanol production. Biotechnology tools and process engineering play crucial roles in the development of integrated processes for biofuels, biochemicals, and biomaterials from lignocellulosic biomass.
