Optimum model for bearing capacity of concrete-steel columns with AI technology via incorporating the algorithms of IWO and ABC

Payam Sarir et al.

Summary: In this study, artificial intelligence techniques were applied to optimize the bearing capacity of concrete-filled steel tube columns. An artificial neural network was used to estimate the bearing capacity values of the columns, and an invasive weed optimization technique was applied to maximize the results. The results showed that the invasive weed optimization technique outperformed the artificial bee colony algorithm in maximizing the bearing capacity of the columns.

Intelligent modelling of clay compressibility using hybrid meta-heuristic and machine learning algorithms

Pin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel modeling approach using machine learning techniques to predict the compression index C c in geotechnical design, showing that machine learning models outperform traditional empirical prediction formulations. Among the tested machine learning algorithms, random forest and back-propagation neural network models are recommended for predicting C c under different conditions.

Application of LSTM approach for modelling stress-strain behaviour of soil

Ning Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new trial using LSTM deep learning method to consider soil stress history and reproduce soil stress-strain behavior, comparing its performance with traditional neural networks. The results show that LSTM outperforms feedforward and feedback neural networks in terms of accuracy and convergence rate, discovering a new phenomenon of bias at low stress levels.

A new evolutionary polynomial regression technique to assess the fundamental periods of irregular buildings

Sebastiano Marasco et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new method to evaluate the fundamental vibration period of reinforced concrete frames with different design parameters. The method involves modal analysis and cluster analysis of a series of Italian buildings, followed by using Evolutionary Polynomial Regression (EPR) to find the optimal polynomial forms of the natural period. The numerical results show better performance compared to existing methodologies in the literature.
