Modulated construction of Fe-based MOF via formic acid modulator for enhanced degradation of sulfamethoxazole:Design, degradation pathways, and mechanism

Jian Sun et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been studied for their excellent environmental catalytic capabilities. In this study, a modulation approach using formic acid as a modulator was successfully used to synthesize Fe-based MOFs. The modulated FeMOFs-2 sample showed high specific surface area and catalytic activity, effectively degrading SMX with almost 95% removal efficiency. The addition of formic acid induced the formation of more coordinatively unsaturated metal sites in the catalyst, resulting in structural defects and increased catalytic performance.
