Engineered protein cages for selective heparin encapsulation

Salla Valimaki et al.

Summary: A heparin-specific binding peptide was conjugated to a cowpea chlorotic mottle virus (CCMV) capsid protein to encapsulate heparin and form capsid-like protein cages. The resulting capsid-heparin assemblies exhibit negligible hemolytic activity, indicating potential for heparin antidote applications.

Recent advances in supramolecular antidotes

Hang Yin et al.

Summary: Poisons have long fascinated humans, and modern technology has allowed for controlled utilization of dangerous poisons in medicine and cosmetics, with the development of antidotes becoming crucial. Recent research focuses on reversing or preventing the toxic effects of poisons by encapsulating them in host molecules, expanding the potential for safer antidotes to be developed.

Anticoagulation in hemodialysis: A narrative review

Sophie E. Claudel et al.

Summary: Systemic anticoagulation is considered necessary for maintenance hemodialysis to preserve dialysis efficiency, with unfractionated heparin being the most commonly used anticoagulant. While UFH has low complication rates, contraindications have led to exploration of alternative anticoagulants for patients with end-stage kidney disease.
