Controllable synthesis and phase-dependent catalytic performance of dual-phase nickel selenides on Ni foam for overall water splitting

Lei Tan et al.

Summary: The NiSe2/Ni3Se4 dual-phase electrocatalysts synthesized on Ni foam show improved efficiency in oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), with lower voltage and good durability. The composition of the catalyst influences the charge-state of Ni and the phase distribution, impacting the catalytic performance significantly. The interfacial electron transfer between Ni3Se4 and NiSe2 enhances conductivity and improves adsorption/desorption energies, contributing to the overall efficiency of the electrolyzer.

An Efficient Turing-Type Ag2Se-CoSe2 Multi-Interfacial Oxygen-Evolving Electrocatalyst**

Xiao-Long Zhang et al.

Summary: A simple cation exchange approach was used to produce Turing-type Ag2Se on CoSe2 nanobelts, resulting in a material highly effective in catalyzing the oxygen evolution reaction. The intrinsic OER activity correlates linearly with the length of Ag2Se-CoSe2 interfaces, indicating that these Turing-type interfaces are the active sites for OER. The excellent OER performance is attributed to the optimized adsorption energies for critical oxygen-containing intermediates at the unconventional interfaces, as shown by X-ray absorption and computational simulations.

Yu Li et al.

Summary: The cation-exchange strategy proposed in this study activates both the basal plane and edge sites of A(x)CoO(2) materials for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) by inserting Fe3+ ions. The enhanced activity is attributed to the abundance of Co-Fe motifs at the edge sites and the charge redistribution in the basal plane induced by the insertion of Fe3+ ions.
