Thienoisoindigo (TII)-Based Quinoidal Small Molecules for High-Performance n-Type Organic Field Effect Transistors

Arulmozhi Velusamy et al.

Summary: A novel family of quinoidal thienoisoindigo (TII)-containing small molecules with dicyanomethylene end-capping units and different alkyl chains were synthesized for n-type organic small molecules in solution-processable organic field effect transistors (OFETs). The detailed molecular structure, properties, and performance of the 2-hexyldecyl substituted derivative, TIIQ-b16, were systematically studied, revealing its potential as electron transporting semiconductors with enhanced ambient stability. The results suggest that constructing quinoidal molecules from TII moiety is an effective approach to improve n-type charge transport characteristics.

Effect of selenophene in naphthalene-diimide-vinylene-based small molecules on n-type organic field-effect transistors

Jong Gyu Oh et al.

Summary: Two NDI-based small molecules, N-TVT-N and N-SVS-N, were synthesized as the active materials for n-type OFETs. While N-SVS-N showed smoother and more uniform surface morphology with predominantly edge-on orientation, N-TVT-N exhibited lower electron mobility in the resulting thin films. These differences can be attributed to the structural features of N-SVS-N facilitating interactions between electron-rich selenophenes.

Solution-Processable Multifused Thiophene Small Molecules and Conjugated Polymer Semiconducting Blend for Organic Field Effect Transistor Application

Summary: Three new solution-processable organic semiconductors were synthesized and characterized for p-type organic field effect transistors. The highest mobility of 0.016 cm(2) V-1 s(-1) was achieved using solution-sheared DTTR-TTA film. Blending crystalline DTTR-TT with oriented-packing polymer PDTT-SBT significantly enhanced mobilities, with the optimized 30% DTTR-TT composition in the blend achieving a hole mobility of 0.22 cm(2) V-1 s(-1).

Solution-processed organic semiconductor crystals for field-effect transistors: from crystallization mechanism towards morphology control

Shengnan Chen et al.

Summary: Organic semiconductor crystals are promising candidates for high performances due to their long-range order, absence of grain boundaries, and minimal traps and defects. Solution processing techniques have been widely concerned due to their advantages of high efficiency, low cost, and large area preparation. In order to achieve high-quality single crystals or crystalline thin films, morphology control during crystallization is critical.
