Laser Micromachining of Magnetoactive Elastomers as Enabling Technology for Magnetoresponsive Surfaces

Gaia Kravanja et al.

Summary: A method for structuring the surface of a magnetoactive elastomer (MAE) using a commercial laser for material ablation is reported. This technique produces reproducible results with high aspect ratio structures. The magnetosensitive lamellae fabricated can be bent by an external magnetic field, allowing control over the sliding angle of water droplets.

Biomimetic underwater self-perceptive actuating soft system based on highly compliant, morphable and conductive sandwiched thin films

Yun Liang et al.

Summary: This study has developed a self-perceptive soft actuator that can accurately control its vertical movement by applying extra pressure, and can track the actuation process and sense the surrounding environment in real-time by incorporating a layer of CNTs film. It can guide the motions of the actuator according to feedback signals.

Overcoming Limitations in Surface Geometry-Driven Bubble Transport: Bidirectional and Unrestricted Movement of an Underwater Gas Bubble Using a Magnetocontrollable Nonwetting Surface

Kiduk Han et al.

Summary: The introduction of magnetocontrollable lubricant-infused surfaces (MCLIS) has provided a key solution to the limitations of unidirectional and locally restrained bubble transport, allowing bidirectional and geometry-unrestricted transportation of bubbles by controlling magneto-responsive microwire alignments. This novel magnetic responsive surface supports anti-buoyancy transport and presents promising applications in microreactors and optical laser shutters in aqueous media.
