Fe-doping induced localized amorphization in ultrathin α-Ni(OH)2 nanomesh for superior oxygen evolution reaction catalysis

Yanhui Song et al.

Summary: Local structure and crystallinity are critical in the catalytic activity of catalysts, and the formation of amorphous phase can significantly enhance catalytic performance. This study successfully achieved controlled amorphization of ultrathin two-dimensional α-Ni(OH)2 nanomeshes through Fe doping, leading to localized amorphization that accelerated reaction kinetics and improved overall performance for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The strong correlation between OER activity and amorphization rate suggests that doping-induced localized amorphization provides more accessible active sites and favorable local chemical environments than fully crystallized structures.
