Associations between Maternal Lipid Profiles and Pregnancy Complications: A Prospective Population-Based Study

Yiqi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that maternal lipid profiles throughout pregnancy are significantly associated with GDM, HDCP, and ICP. Combining lipid profiles in the first trimester with other common predictors can effectively improve the predictive power for GDM and HDCP.

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy: Association with glycaemic control in gestational diabetes

Silja M. Axelsen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the metabolic glucose profile in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) to those with only GDM. Results showed that more women with both GDM and ICP developed preeclampsia, but ICP did not lead to significant changes in glycaemic control in GDM patients under current treatment guidelines.

Ursodeoxycholic acid in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy: a systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis

Caroline Ovadia et al.

Summary: The study found that ursodeoxycholic acid treatment had no significant effect on the prevalence of stillbirth in women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, but when considering only randomized controlled trials, ursodeoxycholic acid was associated with a reduction in stillbirth in combination with preterm birth, providing evidence for the clinical benefit of antenatal ursodeoxycholic acid treatment.

Influence of ursodeoxycholic acid therapy on levels of fibroblast growth factor 21, adiponectin and biochemical parameters in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy

Michal Kukla et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the role of FGF-21 and adiponectin in the pathogenesis of ICP, as well as the impact of UDCA on their levels. Results showed that FGF-21 levels were significantly higher in ICP patients compared to normal pregnant women, and UDCA administration led to an increase in FGF-21 levels. Adiponectin was negatively associated with bile acid levels in later stages of pregnancy in ICP patients, suggesting a potential role in regulating bile acid concentration.
