All van der Waals Integrated Nanophotonics with Bulk Transition Metal Dichalcogenides

Haonan Ling et al.

Summary: The article introduces the concept of all van der Waals photonics and discusses the potential applications of electronically bulk transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) semiconductors in nanoscale and integrated photonics. Bulk TMDCs may potentially outperform conventional 3D semiconductors, leading to smaller devices, more energy-efficient electro-optic modulators, and stronger quantum light-materials interaction. The enhanced optical performance, ease of integration, and wide range of materials selection suggest that bulk TMDCs may complement existing integrated photonics systems.

Bright single photon emitters with enhanced quantum efficiency in a two-dimensional semiconductor coupled with dielectric nano-antennas

Luca Sortino et al.

Summary: Deterministic positioning of single photon emitters in 2D semiconductors can be achieved through localized strain induced by underlying nanostructures, with coupling to dielectric nanoantennas leading to substantial improvements in quantum efficiency and photoluminescence brightness. This approach allows for low saturation pulse energies and significantly brighter photoluminescence, with a 5-fold increase in average quantum efficiency observed. Furthermore, dielectric nano-antennas are established as a platform for high-efficiency quantum light generation in monolayer semiconductors.

Enhanced tunable second harmonic generation from twistable interfaces and vertical superlattices in boron nitride homostructures

Kaiyuan Yao et al.

Summary: Broken symmetries in materials and interfaces lead to strong even-order nonlinear optical responses. Van der Waals heterostructures allow for control over symmetry at crystal interfaces. Our study demonstrates highly tunable second harmonic generation and polarization patterns in twistable vdW systems, paving the way for efficient frequency conversion architectures.
