Nitric Oxide-Driven Nanomotor for Deep Tissue Penetration and Multidrug Resistance Reversal in Cancer Therapy

Mi Mi Wan et al.

Summary: A nanomotor with motion ability and sustained release of nitric oxide has been designed to achieve deep drug penetration and reversal of multidrug resistance in cancer chemotherapy. A new chemotherapy mode called recognition-penetration-reversal-elimination has been proposed, showing effectiveness in vitro and in vivo experiments, not only applicable to cancer chemotherapy but also other therapy methods.

Nanomolar detection of L-cysteine and Cu2+ ions based on Trehalose capped silver nanoparticles

Muniyandi Maruthupandi et al.

Summary: This research successfully prepared Trehalose capped silver nanoparticles through a solvent-free solid-state method and applied them as sensors for L-Cysteine and Cu2+ ions. The concentration of L-Cysteine and Cu2+ ions was detected based on changes in the SPR band, providing a new method for detecting these substances in environmental, biological, and drug samples.

A combinational chemo-immune therapy using an enzyme-sensitive nanoplatform for dual-drug delivery to specific sites by cascade targeting

Yanmei He et al.

Summary: By developing cascade-targeting, dual drug-loaded core-shell nanoparticles, precise drug delivery to tumors and overcoming biological barriers were achieved; the degradation of hyaluronic acid shell facilitated drug release and cellular uptake, while the exposure of triphenylphosphonium derivative core allowed for mitochondria-targeted delivery, ultimately inhibiting tumor growth.

Biological Mediator-Propelled Nanosweeper for Nonpharmaceutical Thrombus Therapy

Qingqing Deng et al.

Summary: This study presents a biological mediator-propelled nanosweeper for efficient nonpharmaceutical thrombolysis and prevention of thrombus recurrence. The nanosweepers, when activated by near-infrared light, release nitric oxide to penetrate deeply into the thrombus for enhanced site-specific mechanical and photothermal thrombolysis. Experimental evidence shows excellent site-specific thrombolytic efficacy compared to clinical thrombolytic drugs, with nitric oxide release effectively preventing thrombus recurrence in vivo. Overall, the nanosweeper offers a promising strategy for thrombus treatment.

Active, Yet Little Mobility: Asymmetric Decomposition of H2O2 Is Not Sufficient in Propelling Catalytic Micromotors

Xianglong Lyu et al.

Summary: The popular principle of designing chemical micro-machines based on asymmetric chemical reactions like catalytic decomposition of H2O2 may not be sufficient in powering the micromotors into self-propulsion. Surface morphology plays a critical role in enabling/disabling the performance of catalytic caps on chemical micromotors. This study offers a refreshed perspective on understanding how chemistry powers nano- and microscopic objects by emphasizing the importance of an electrochemical mechanism over nonelectrochemical pathways in self-propulsion.

Deep Penetration of Nanolevel Drugs and Micrometer-Level T Cells Promoted by Nanomotors for Cancer Immunochemotherapy

Huan Chen et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that nitric oxide (NO)-driven nanomotors with drug-loading capabilities can significantly improve the infiltration ability of T cells in tumor tissues by promoting normalization of tumor vasculature system and degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM). The combination of motility and physiological function of nanomotors provides a promising design idea for future immunotherapy of various diseases.
