Food quality and safety risk diagnosis in the food cold chain through failure mode and effect analysis

Jhao-Yi Wu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated risks in food cold chains using the FMEA approach, identifying key areas of concern in the receiving, storage, dispatch, and delivery processes. Surveys and case studies demonstrated that adopting improvement plans could effectively reduce food quality and safety risks in cold chain systems. The FMEA method was shown as a valuable tool for diagnosing and mitigating risks in food cold chains.

Design and synthesis of polydiacetylenes, and their low temperature irreversible thermochromic properties

Naveen Mergu et al.

Summary: Polydiacetylenes functionalized with glycol ester groups were successfully synthesized and used as thermochromic dyes showing irreversible behavior below freezing temperatures. Color-transition temperatures for different polymers were determined in the solid state. Additionally, a paper test strip was prepared as a warning indicator for deep freeze products.

Tamper-Proof Time-Temperature Indicator for Inspecting Ultracold Supply Chain

Lam Tan Hao et al.

Summary: A time-temperature indicator (TTI) has been developed to monitor the temperature during the transportation of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, which can detect small temperature changes within subzero ranges. The TTI utilizes a special ethylene glycol/water mixture that melts at -69 degrees C and leaves a colored trace on a white absorbent, effectively preventing short-term exposure to room temperature.

Universal quenching of common fluorescent probes by water and alcohols

Jimmy Maillard et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that water acts as a classic fluorescence quencher for organic fluorophores, reducing their fluorescence quantum yield and lifetime significantly. The fluorescence quenching is found to be more efficient for red-emitting probes and is attributed to high-energy vibrations of the solvent. Understanding this solvent-assisted quenching mechanism could lead to the rational design of brighter fluorescent probes by protecting organic fluorophores from the solvent.
