The gut microbiota-brain axis in behaviour and brain disorders

Livia H. Morais et al.

Summary: This Review discusses the intricate and potentially important connections between the gut microbiota and the brain, involving bidirectional communication along the gut-brain axis. Emerging evidence suggests that disruptions in microbial communities may be implicated in neurological disorders, with animal models providing valuable insights into the pathways linking the gut and the brain which could have tangible impacts on human health.

Nanoencapsulation for Probiotic Delivery

Franco Centurion et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota play a vital role in the host's health, and consuming probiotic bacteria can bring health benefits, but ensuring the survival and effectiveness of probiotics in the gastrointestinal tract poses challenges. Current microencapsulation techniques aim to enhance cell viability and resistance, but may encounter difficulties in clinical applications.

Lactococcus lactis NZ9000 Prevents Asthmatic Airway Inflammation and Remodelling in Rats through the Improvement of Intestinal Barrier Function and Systemic TGF-β Production

Daniel Cervantes-Garcia et al.

Summary: The use of Lactococcus lactis NZ9000 orally diminished inflammatory responses in asthmatic rats, reduced serum allergen-specific IgE levels, prevented tissue remodelling in the lungs, and improved intestinal barrier function. Additionally, it increased Peyer's patch and goblet cell quantity in the intestine, normalized morphological alterations, and increased systemic TGF-beta production. These results suggest that L. lactis may be a potential candidate for asthma prevention.
