Ultrahigh Modulation Enhancement in All-Optical Si-Based THz Modulators Integrated with Gold Nanobipyramids

Pujing Zhang et al.

Summary: The performance of terahertz devices can be significantly improved by using optical regulation strategy with the aid of hybrid materials, such as gold nanobipyramids (AuNBPs). The introduction of AuNBPs can effectively enhance the modulation depth of terahertz modulators, and an ultrahigh modulation enhancement can be achieved in the AuNBPs hybrid metamaterials. The optical regulation with AuNBPs is attributed to increased damping rate and higher coupling coefficient.

Electrically Driven Tunable Broadband Polarization States via Active Metasurfaces Based on Joule-Heat-Induced Phase Transition of Vanadium Dioxide

Fang-Zhou Shu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates electrically tunable broadband polarization states by combining phase-change material (vanadium dioxide) and dispersion-free metasurface for the first time. The polarization states can be continuously tuned through electrically driven phase transition of vanadium dioxide, allowing modulation from horizontal to vertical or from circular to linear polarization. Additionally, a proof-of-concept demonstration for dynamically independent control of multiple polarization display is carried out.

Dynamics of the electrically induced insulator-to-metal transition in rare-earth nickelates

Javier del Valle et al.

Summary: The study investigates the electrically induced insulator-to-metal transition in rare-earth nickelates by comparing the time-dependent transport properties of two distinct members. Stark differences in the nucleation and growth of the metallic phase were observed, with NdNiO3 evolving more rapidly. The amplitude of the resistivity change across the transition was identified as the key parameter controlling the switching speed, contributing to a unified vision of the field-induced transition dynamics across correlated oxides families.
