Predicting and Overcoming Taxane Chemoresistance

Sylvie Rodrigues-Ferreira et al.

Summary: Taxanes are important drugs in treating various solid tumors, but the development of resistance is a major cause of treatment failure. Efforts have been made to identify predictive biomarkers to select patients who will benefit from taxane-based chemotherapy, thus avoiding ineffective treatment for resistant patients.

Living Bacteria-Mediated Aerobic Photoinduced Radical Polymerization for in Situ Bacterial Encapsulation and Differentiation

Huan Lu et al.

Summary: An alternative photoinduced polymerization strategy was developed for preparing functional polymer hydrogels through bacteria-initiated radical polymerization of acrylamides in ordinary culture media. The use of various bacteria under light irradiation converted dissolved oxygen to hydroxyl radicals, initiating polymerization to achieve polyacrylamides with high molecular weights. The mild conditions allowed for in situ bacterial encapsulation and differentiation based on their gelation behavior properties and oxygen tolerance.

Intracellular Radical Polymerization of Paclitaxel-Bearing Acrylamide for Self-Inflicted Apoptosis of Cancer Cells

Qi Shen et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for intracellular radical polymerizations promoted by the redox response of the tumor microenvironment, achieving a high conversion rate of 97% within 2 hours for the synthesis of functional macromolecules inside living cells. The critical factors of intracellular polymerization were found to be related to the redox status of GSH/GSSG, and tumor cells were able to induce their apoptosis using in situ synthesized polymers.
