Significant enhancement of VOCs conversion by facile mechanochemistry coupled MnO2 modified fly ash: Mechanism and application

Jun Liu et al.

Summary: The modification of fly ash with mechanochemical coupled MnO2 through ball milling enhances its activity for VOCs oxidation, significantly improving toluene conversion and carbon balance efficiency. The proposed twostage reaction mechanism shows that the reduction of MnO2 dominates the first stage, generating Mn2O3, which further oxidizes adsorbed toluene in the second stage. These results demonstrate the great potential of modified fly ash as a low-cost, highly active, and scalable material for VOCs conversion.

Insight into the Improvement Effect of Nitrogen Dopant in Ag/Co3O4 Nanocubes for Soot Oxidation: Experimental and Theoretical Studies

Longwen Chen et al.

Summary: Different doping amounts of N-doped Ag/Co3O4 nanocubes were synthesized for the catalytic soot oxidation, with the N-doped sample showing significantly improved catalytic activity. This improvement was attributed to alterations in electronic structure leading to more oxygen vacancies, enhanced lattice oxygen mobility, larger surface area, rugged morphology, and promoted reducibility. DFT calculations revealed that N dopant as an electron-appealing center could lower formation energy of oxygen vacancies and facilitate activation of lattice oxygen, ultimately accelerating the reaction kinetics.

Migration of cations in layered oxides for creating a highly active interface toward CO preferential oxidation

Junfang Ding et al.

Summary: This study successfully achieved a cation migration strategy utilizing the unique layered structure of CuCoO2 to construct CuCoO2-CeO2 composites with a strongly coupled heterojunction interface. With increasing CeO2 content, the Ce3+ content and surface areas of the samples gradually increased, reaching a maximum in 70%CeO2-CuCoO2. The migration of interlayered Cu+ resulted in the generation of oxygen vacancies and active CuOx enriched at the interface, which significantly improved the catalytic oxidation activity of CO preferential oxidation reactions.
