1D NiHPO4 nanotubes prepared using dissolution equilibrium as bifunctional electrocatalyst for high-efficiency water splitting

New TiO2-Based Oxide for Catalyzing Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution Reaction with Noble Metal-Like Performance

Summary: This study demonstrates that anatase TiO2 can be efficiently developed into a superior HER electrocatalyst with comparable activity to Pt-based electrocatalysts in alkaline solutions through morphology control, proper lattice doping, and surface active site engineering. The obtained cobalt-doped TiO2 nanorod arrays show low overpotential and high stability, indicating the potential of low-cost transition metal oxides as alternative HER electrocatalysts in alkaline water electrolysis. Theoretical calculations also support the efficient lowering of energy barriers for water adsorption/dissociation and H intermediate desorption by introducing Co with rich oxygen vacancies.
