Ultrasensitive acetone gas sensor can distinguish the diabetic state of people and its high performance analysis by first-principles calculation

Lingbo Cai et al.

Summary: An ultrasensitive acetone gas sensor based on p-Rh2O3-n-ZnO porous heterostructure has been fabricated with a detection limit of 50 ppb. The sensor exhibits good repeatability, selectivity, and linear response, and can distinguish between the acetone concentrations of diabetic patients and healthy individuals. Theoretical models based on first-principles calculations have been used to explain the ultrasensitivity of the sensor.

Cubic-like In2O3/α-Fe2O3 heterostructures assembled with 2D porous nanoplates for superior triethylamine gas-sensing behavior

Qian Ma et al.

Summary: Cubic-like heterostructures of In2O3/alpha-Fe2O3 assembled with 2D porous nanoplates were prepared by solvothermal method and subsequent calcination process. The introduction of Fe3+ component contributed to the morphological evolution and unique gas-sensing behavior, with large specific surface area, effective heterojunctions, and tunable electron transmission mechanism being key factors.

Cu-doped Fe2O3 porous spindles derived from metal-organic frameworks with enhanced sensitivity to triethylamine

Huijun Gao et al.

Summary: In recent years, the introduction of other elements has been an effective method to improve gas sensing performances by generating oxygen vacancies. Cu-doped alpha-Fe2O3 porous spindles were successfully prepared using MIL-88-Fe as the precursor through a simple solvothermal method. The presence of Cu ions helps restrain the growth of crystalline grains and enables the spindles to have a higher specific surface area and smaller pore sizes, leading to superior sensitivity towards triethylamine (TEA) in gas sensing applications.

MOF-derived bow-like Ga-doped Co3O4 hierarchical architectures for enhanced triethylamine sensing performance

Heming Sun et al.

Summary: The hierarchical bow-like Ga-doped Co3O4 architectures assembled by ultrathin and porous nanosheets were synthesized with the assistance of Co-MOFs. The 2 at% Ga-doped Co3O4 sensor showed excellent gas sensing performance, outperforming the pure Co(3)O(4) sensor, with high response to triethylamine at a low working temperature and rapid response/recovery speed.

Summary: This paper synthesized five different SnO2 samples by a simple synthesis method, and found that different exposed surfaces play a key role in TEA sensing properties. The relationship between TEA sensing activity and SnO2 exposed crystal faces is proposed as follows: (200) > (101) > (110).

Ethanol sensor using gadolinia-doped ceria solid electrolyte and double perovskite structure sensing material

Tong Liu et al.

Summary: Gas sensors based on mixed potential gadolinia-doped ceria (GDC) using a double perovskite composite oxide (Sr2NiMoO6) were fabricated to detect ethanol, with the material annealed at 1000 degrees C showing the highest sensitivity in the range of 1-200 ppm. The sensor response value Delta V was piecewise linear with the logarithm of ethanol concentration, with the slopes of -8 and -51.3 mV/decade for 1-10 ppm and 10-200 ppm ethanol, respectively. Stability and sensing mechanism of the sensor were also investigated.

Summary: A series of high stable gas sensors were prepared by doping Sn into NiO nanofibers, showing enhanced gas response and reduced crystal size. Sn doping altered the resistance of the sensors differently under variable relative humidity conditions, with the sensor exhibiting the highest response to triethylamine at 6% Sn doping content.

Summary: This study demonstrates a significant enhancement in the output performance of TENGs by surface dipoles effect rather than conventional methods, revealing important factors beyond work functions in influencing TENG performance. By bonding copper ions onto oxygen-containing functional groups, the orientation of surface molecular dipoles is altered, leading to an output enhancement of TENG.
