Summary: A catalytic process utilizing acid catalyst and a combination of peroxide and base was developed to convert sugarcane bagasse into functional nanomaterials. The synthesized silica and lignin nanomaterials were used to fabricate a functional membrane for purification of solute particles and gases, showing promising results for filtration of contaminated water and air purification.

Comparative physiological and transcriptomic analyses illuminate common mechanisms by which silicon alleviates cadmium and arsenic toxicity in rice seedlings

Summary: Silicon treatment significantly alleviates the toxicity of Cd and As in rice by reducing their translocation and reactive oxygen species production. Transcriptomics analysis revealed that Si reshapes the gene expression patterns in Cd- or As-stressed rice roots, suggesting it may play a fundamental role in plant defense against heavy metalloid stresses by modulating whole genome expression. Identification of novel candidate genes like 0s01g0524500 and 0s06g0514800 provides valuable resources for developing Cd- and/or As-resistant plants.
