Epidemiology of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: Results from the RICA Registry

Joan Carles Trullas et al.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HF-PEF) by determining their prevalence, progression over time, and describing their clinical and epidemiological characteristics. Results showed that HF-PEF patients are older, more likely to be female, and have higher prevalence of certain comorbidities compared to HF patients with reduced ejection fraction. Despite a lower mortality rate, a substantial proportion of HF-PEF patients still required disease-modifying treatment.

Contributions of Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressures to Cardiovascular Outcomes in the ALLHAT Study

Nathan K. Itoga et al.

Summary: The study found that there are differences in the risk pattern of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) depending on clinical outcomes, with different SBP and DBP ranges associated with the lowest risk for different cardiovascular events. This suggests that individualization of blood pressure targets may be necessary based on the specific cardiovascular event for which a patient is most at risk.

Summary: Long-term control of SBP level at 120-129 mmHg is independently associated with the highest risk reduction of all-cause mortality and improvement of KCCQ score in patients with HFpEF.

Prognostic value of ambulatory blood pressure values in elderly patients with heart failure. Results of the DICUMAP study

M. Camafort et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an association between non-dipper blood pressure pattern measured by ABPM and higher risk of hospitalization and death due to heart failure in older patients. Higher NYHA functional class and higher proportional nocturnal reduction in diastolic BP are independently associated with death or readmission at one year.
