Cytotoxic CD8+T cells in cancer and cancer immunotherapy

Hans Raskov et al.

Summary: The functions and interactions between the innate and adaptive immune systems play a crucial role in anticancer immunity. Cytotoxic T cells with CD8 as the most effective effectors in the anticancer immune response form the basis of successful cancer immunotherapies. Advancements in genetically modified or synthetic receptors on cytotoxic T cells are being developed for future cancer treatment. Combinatory regimens may optimize treatment effects and reduce adverse events in cancer therapy.

Intratumoral Injection of Clostridium novyi-NT Spores in Patients with Treatment-refractory Advanced Solid Tumors

Filip Janku et al.

Summary: The first-in-human study on intratumoral injection of Clostridium novyi-NT demonstrated its feasibility with manageable toxicities. The treatment induced antitumor responses and host immune reactions in patients, with most experiencing reduction or stability in injected tumor size. Further studies are warranted to explore the potential of C. novyi-NT in human therapy.

MAPK signaling pathway-targeted marine compounds in cancer therapy

Jiaen Wei et al.

Summary: This study reviewed marine compounds targeting the MAPK signaling pathway and their applications in cancer therapy. By screening pure compounds and describing their anticancer mechanisms and protein expression changes, it provided foundational information for the development of marine compound-based antitumor drugs.

Peptides with Dual Antimicrobial-Anticancer Activity Derived from the N-terminal Region of H. pylori Ribosomal Protein L1 (RpL1)

Atieh Yaghoubi et al.

Summary: Traditional cancer therapy methods such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy face challenges due to factors like hypoxic/necrotic areas, abnormal blood vessels, and resistance, necessitating the search for new approaches. Antimicrobial peptides with dual anticancer activity are gaining attention as a promising new method, with small peptides derived from the N-terminus of H. pylori RpL1 protein showing strong anticancer effects and antimicrobial activities.

Tweak to Treat: Reprograming Bacteria for Cancer Treatment

Brendan Fu-Long Sieow et al.

Summary: Recent advances in cancer biology, microbiology, and bioengineering have led to the development of engineered live biotherapeutics for targeted cancer therapy. Engineered bacteria, including tumor-targeting and probiotics, can deliver anticancer agents to the tumor microenvironment. Combination therapies involving engineered bacteria and traditional anticancer treatments show promise in addressing intratumor heterogeneity. Exciting prospects lie ahead for the clinical translation of engineered bacteria in cancer prevention and treatment.
