A counterfactual economic analysis of Covid-19 using a threshold augmented multi-country model q

Alexander Chudik et al.

Summary: This paper develops a TGVAR model to quantify the macroeconomic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, finding significant and long-lasting impacts on global output with variations across countries. While the impact on China and other emerging Asian economies is estimated to be less severe, the United Kingdom and other advanced economies may experience deeper and longer-lasting effects. The study also highlights the vulnerability of non-Asian emerging markets and the interconnectedness of the global economy in facing the economic fallout of the pandemic.
