Holden Hyer et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the use of IN625 nickel-based superalloy components produced via laser powder bed fusion, and examines the microstructure changes after heat treatment based on different component geometries. The results show that the heat treatment leads to varied microstructural features in different sections of the components, which is critical for successful testing of the RL10 engine.

Effect of micro-segregation of alloying elements on the precipitation behaviour in laser surface engineered Alloy 718

Srinivas Aditya Mantri et al.

Summary: Laser surface engineering has been used to simulate microstructural evolution during laser-based additive manufacturing of Alloy 718. The micro-segregation of alloying elements in the fusion zone has a significant impact on local precipitation behavior. The dendritic structure formed by rapid melting and solidification exhibits three distinct zones and contains various types of precipitates within the austenite matrix.

High strength WE43 microlattice structures additively manufactured by laser powder bed fusion

Holden Hyer et al.

Summary: WE43 alloy with complex lattice structures produced by LPBF shows oscillations in stress during compression testing, with certain structures exhibiting higher compressive strength and specific strength. Two main failure modes were observed: 45 degrees shear fracture and crushing, due to the inherent low ductility of WE43 alloy.
