Double-threshold effect of technological innovation on environmental-responsibility fulfillment: Evidence from high-polluting SMEs in China

Feifei Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the double-threshold effect of technological innovation on the environmental responsibilities of Chinese small- and medium-sized enterprises in high-polluting industries. The results show that there is a significant positive impact of technological innovation on environmental responsibility only when the R&D investment intensity falls within a certain threshold range. This study highlights the importance of technological innovation for high-polluting SMEs and provides suggestions for policymakers and SME managers.

The effect of carbon pricing on technological change for full energy decarbonization: A review of empirical ex-post evidence

Johan Lilliestam et al.

Summary: Empirical analyses of existing high-price carbon pricing schemes in the European Union, New Zealand, British Columbia, and the Nordic countries show short-term operational effects but no significant impact on technological change or zero-carbon investment. The theoretical argument for the effectiveness of carbon pricing in stimulating innovation and zero-carbon investment remains unsupported by empirical evidence.
