Suicidal ideation among active and nonactive/former Latter-day Saint sexual minorities

G. Tyler Lefevor et al.

Summary: Sexual minorities in the LDS Church face unique risks related to their religious and SM experiences that may increase suicidal ideation. Active and nonactive LDS sexual minorities reported similar levels of suicidal ideation and minority stress but differed in their levels of religiosity/spirituality. Various factors such as positive religious coping and family support were associated with either increased or decreased suicidal ideation in both groups.

Sexual Orientation Complexity and Psychosocial/Health Outcomes

G. Tyler Lefevor et al.

Summary: This article discusses the concept of sexual orientation discordance and suggests using the term "branchedness" as a more value-neutral description. Through empirical research and stepwise regression analysis, the article argues that variations in sexual attraction, behavior, and identity can account for the differences in psychosocial and health outcomes caused by sexual orientation discordance. The article encourages researchers to use non-normative language and conceptualizations in studying sexual orientation complexity.

Sexual prejudice, sexism, and religion

Chana Etengoff et al.

Summary: Multi-national and meta-analytic studies suggest that the pathways between religiousness and sexism/sexual prejudice are partially mediated by sociopersonality factors such as conservatism. The contributing factors to this relationship, such as authoritarianism and fundamentalism, interact at the dynamic nexus of individual and social development. Further research exploring the mechanisms of religiously situated gender inequality and sexual prejudice is essential given the associated negative outcomes for individuals, relationships, and communities.

The Relationship Between Religiousness and Health Among Sexual Minorities: A Meta-Analysis

G. Tyler Lefevor et al.

Summary: Research suggests a positive relationship between religiousness/spirituality (R/S) and health in sexual minorities, especially when R/S is conceptualized as spirituality or religious cognition. However, there is a significant amount of residual heterogeneity in this relationship among sexual minorities, and sampling from sexual minority venues may lead to the disappearance or negativity of this relationship.

Social Media, Web, and Panel Surveys: Using Non-Probability Samples in Social and Policy Research

Vili Lehdonvirta et al.

Summary: The use of online surveys in social science and policy research has grown rapidly, surpassing more established methods. A better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of non-probability online surveys is needed. Empirical comparison of river and panel samples showed significant differences in demographic variables, with river samples diverging more from benchmark data than panel samples.
