Global justice and the COVID-19 vaccine: Limitations of the public goods framework

Nivedita Saksena

Summary: Despite the attempt to label the COVID-19 vaccine as a 'global public good', this concept does not effectively address the structural inequalities between countries in the Global South and North, nor the challenges posed by a neoliberal logic. A focus on explicitly addressing inequities, ensuring access for countries in the Global South, and addressing the norm-setting powers of pharmaceutical companies is necessary to ensure global access to the vaccine.
