The evolution of the application of capital budgeting techniques in enterprises

Summary: The study shows that NPV, IRR, PBP, ARR, ROI, and ROV are the most popular methods for evaluating capital investments. Companies in the US and UK are increasing their use of IRR as a primary method and retaining the PBP as an ancillary technique. Companies in India and South Africa are moving away from PBP and ARR methods and increasingly using NPV.
