A Solidarity-Type World: Need-Based Helping among Ranchers in the Southwestern United States

Lee Cronk et al.

Summary: The study found that most ranchers do not expect repayment when providing help in times of need, but do expect something in return when helping with tasks such as branding. Ranchers are more likely to help others if they are involved in religious and civic organizations, own larger ranches, rely less on ranch income, and have more relatives in the area.
