Thresholds of resistance: agroecology, resilience and the agrarian question

Eric Holt-Gimenez et al.

Summary: A growing body of literature supports agroecology as a pathway to climate resilience, which is being adopted by development institutions. However, agroecology's agrarian limitations are often overlooked, leading to confusion in politically contested understandings of resilience. The claim of superior climate resilience in agroecology cannot be understood in isolation, as it is necessary to consider the socially unsustainable conditions of many smallholders, particularly women.

Agroecological peasant territories: resistance and existence in the struggle for emancipation in Brazil

Leonardo van den Berg et al.

Summary: This study examines two agroecological peasant territories in Brazil as emancipatory alternatives in the context of authoritarian populism and neo-liberalism. The peasant territories build and defend emancipatory alternatives through self-governed knowledge and production systems, mobilizing against exploitative relations, and transforming parts of the state. They provide a basis for emancipatory transformation and can be considered as emancipatory alternatives themselves.
