A greedy approach to improve pesticide application for precision agriculture using model predictive control

Umar Zangina et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an active demand management system for pesticide using a mass-spring suspension system, and efficiently solves the problem of finding the right time, amount and place for pesticide application in an agricultural field using a controller based on model predictive control. The proposed solution minimizes the risk of pest infestation by considering pest risk prediction models.

Retention and distribution of pesticides in planted filter microcosms designed for treatment of agricultural surface runoff

Andrii Butkovskyi et al.

Summary: The study tested various filter material combinations suitable for retaining different pesticides and found that mixtures of pumice and vermiculite have high pesticide retention capacity and lower leaching potential, providing near natural treatment options in riparian strips.

Biodegradation of organophosphorus insecticide chlorpyrifos into a major fuel additive 2,4-bis(1,1 dimethylethyl) phenol using white-rot fungal strain Trametes hirsuta MTCC-1171

Pravin D. Patil et al.

Summary: The white-rot fungal strain Trametes hirsuta MTCC-1171 effectively degrades chlorpyrifos, using it as a sole source of carbon and energy. Under optimal experimental conditions, the fungal strain achieved over 95% degradation of chlorpyrifos in 16 hours. This study provides a foundation for exploring efficient bioremediation processes in agricultural and forest environments.

The water footprint of dry onion production in Nigeria

O. Adeoti et al.

Summary: This study estimated the water footprints of dry onion production in Nigeria, revealing that the production mainly relies on blue water with relatively low water use efficiency. Katsina State has the smallest water footprint for dry onion production, while Kano State has the largest, indicating varying impacts on water resources. Dry onion production in Nigeria has significant water consumption and pollution, with implications for water management and policy-making.
