Coherence resonance in influencer networks

Ralf Toenjes et al.

Summary: Influencer networks, characterized by a small number of highly connected nodes, can achieve enhanced synchronization through introducing an optimal amount of noise, leading to a phenomenon called coherence resonance. This new network dynamical effect arises from a synergy between network structure and stochasticity, and is highly nonlinear in nature.

Control of coherence resonance in multiplex neural networks

Maria Masoliver et al.

Summary: The study investigates the dynamics of two weakly and mutually coupled neuronal populations in a multiplexed ring configuration. It shows that appropriate levels of noise in layer 1 can induce coherence resonance (CR), anti-coherence resonance (ACR), and inverse stochastic resonance (ISR) in layer 2 with weak inter-layer coupling, even with a small number of randomly distributed inter-layer links. The results are applicable to both small and large neuronal populations.

Neural burst codes disguised as rate codes

Ezekiel Williams et al.

Summary: The study shows that neuronal information transfer is not strongly influenced by clearly demarcated burst patterns, as neurons are able to attribute different meanings to bursts and isolated spikes. Information transmission instead depends on synaptic dynamics, burst length, and relative frequency, with common burstiness metrics unable to predict information carrying capacity. The results provide guidance for coding strategies based on spike-timing patterns and demonstrate that even unimodal firing statistics can be consistent with a bivariate neural code.
