Suitability of Nansha Mangrove Wetland for High Nitrogen Shrimp Pond Wastewater Treatment

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that mangrove wetlands can effectively reduce nitrogen and phosphorus in shrimp pond wastewater, but significantly increase N2O and CH4 emissions. Therefore, caution should be exercised when using mangrove wetlands for shrimp pond wastewater treatment.

Bacterial-algal coupling system for high strength mariculture wastewater treatment: Effect of temperature on nutrient recovery and microalgae cultivation

Zengshuai Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that using acidogenic liquid as a culture medium for Chlorella vulgaris cultivation resulted in higher biomass, with the most suitable culture medium being acidogenic liquid with an initial pH of 8. The optimal temperature for Chlorella vulgaris cultivation was found to be 25 degrees Celsius, with removal efficiencies of 94.4% for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and 68.8% for NH4+-N from the acidogenic liquid. This outcome could lead to an innovative value chain in the aquaculture industry with environmental sustainability and economic feasibility.

Bioaugmentation with nitrifying and denitrifying microbial consortia for mitigation of nitrogenous metabolites in shrimp ponds

Prasanna Kumar Patil et al.

Summary: The study developed a microbial consortium containing AOB, NOB, and DNB to mitigate total ammonia nitrogen in commercial Penaeus vannamei shrimp farms. The consortium showed significant reduction in TAN levels after application in four commercial shrimp farming sites. The study suggests that the developed microbial formulation could efficiently reduce toxic ammonia species in shrimp culture farms.

In- situ and ex- situ purification effect of ecological ponds of Euryale ferox Salisb on shrimp aquaculture

Meng Ni et al.

Summary: This study investigated the purification effect of ecological ponds of Euryale ferox Salisb on shrimp aquaculture in tidal flat ponds, finding that the shrimp + E. ferox + tailwater system is a water-saving and sustainable development model. The aquaponics model showed higher shrimp production and survival rates, as well as profits, compared to shrimp monoculture.
