Effects of employees' opportunities to influence in-store music on sales: Evidence from a field experiment

Sven-Olov Daunfeldt et al.

Summary: A study conducted in Stockholm, Sweden found that giving employees the opportunity to influence in-store music may lead to a decrease in sales, as their music preferences may differ from what is beneficial for the store owners. Employees' diverse music tastes and preference for high-intensity songs seemed to negatively impact sales, suggesting that store owners should consider limiting employees' influence on background music.
