The motivation of mission statements: How regulatory mode influences workplace discrimination

Summary: Despite efforts to enforce ethical standards in US corporations, this study shows that the way organizations pursue their goals can influence ethical violations, specifically discrimination. Franchises with mission statements emphasizing urgent action over thoughtful consideration are more likely to be involved in discriminatory behavior, as demonstrated by both archival data and experiments.
