Barriers and facilitators to bikeshare programs: A qualitative study in an urban environment

Summary: This qualitative study explored barriers and facilitators of bikeshare use and identified potential strategies to increase participation in urban environments. Findings revealed that age, disability, stigma, lack of safety and bike infrastructure were major barriers, while enjoyment, peer support, convenience, and availability of electric bikes were key facilitators. Recommendations focused on structural improvements such as infrastructure enhancement, incentive programs, awareness campaigns, and providing more electric bikes to increase bikeshare usage in urban settings.
