Pesticide overuse in apple production and its socioeconomic determinants: Evidence from Shaanxi and Shandong provinces, China

Summary: This study reveals that 70.6% of apple farms engage in excessive pesticide use, with farmers' risk aversion, orchard size, and the age of apple trees being key factors influencing the extent of pesticide application. Policy measures such as promoting crop insurance, enlarging land size, and regulating pesticide prices could help reduce pesticide use in apple production.
