Does Educational Attainment Promote Job Satisfaction? The Bittersweet Trade-offs Between Job Resources, Demands, and Stress

Brittany C. Solomon et al.

Summary: Through two studies, it was found that individuals with higher education levels have more job resources but also face more job demands, leading to increased job stress and decreased job satisfaction, offsetting the positive gains associated with resources. There are important trade-offs underlying the relationship between education and job satisfaction, and gender and self-employment status can influence this association.

Noncompete Agreements in the US Labor Force

Evan P. Starr et al.

Summary: Based on survey data, approximately 18% of labor force participants are bound by noncompete agreements. These agreements are more common in high-skill, high-paying jobs, but are also present in low-skill, low-paying jobs and in states where enforcement is prohibited. Early-notice noncompete agreements are associated with better employee outcomes, while agreements presented late may result in comparatively worse conditions for employees.
