Accuracy for Subtle Facial Emotional Expressions Among Individuals With Borderline Personality Disorder Symptoms and Diagnoses

Nathaniel R. Herr et al.

Summary: This study examined whether individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) have skills or deficits in facial emotion recognition (FER) in nonclinical and clinical samples. The results showed that individuals with BPD have higher accuracy in identifying subtle emotional states, especially in accurately ruling out emotions that are not present. There was no evidence of a bias for mislabeling neutral faces in either sample.
