Providing social support for inpatients: Insights from a virtual medical student initiative

Summary: The study shows that a humanistic and narrative medicine intervention designed to engage medical students in combating social isolation in hospitalised patients during the COVID-19 pandemic was successful. The feedback was positive, demonstrating benefits for medical students in learning about humanism and connecting with patients through their life stories. This intervention has the potential to be implemented in other settings beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

The role of self-efficacy in the relationship between the learning environment and student engagement

Summary: This study found that self-efficacy and teacher feedback were positive predictors of student engagement, while shared control and student negotiation had smaller effects on student engagement. Promoting mutual respect and teacher feedback from the learning environment variables had significant impacts on behavioral engagement.
