Metal organic frameworks as nanomaterials for analysis of toxic metals in food and environmental applications

Z. Pinar Gumus et al.

Summary: It is important to develop new materials for analytical sample preparation for the separation, detection and preconcentration of toxic metals from food, and environmental materials. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising adsorbents for the fast and efficient extraction of heavy metal ions from complex samples in food safety and environmental pollution management. This review describes recent developments in the use of MOFs in the analysis of toxic metals in food and environmental samples, leading to the planning of new studies for the use of MOFs in different matrices.

Design and fabrication of core-shell magnetic and non-magnetic supported carbonaceous metal organic framework nanocomposites for adsorption of dye

Amirhossein Didehban et al.

Summary: A novel core-shell cobalt and nickel based metal organic framework (MOF) nano-composites were efficiently prepared for the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) with satisfactory thermal resistance and adsorption capacities. The characterization of the nano-composites using XRD, TEM, etc., revealed their core-shell structure and well-dispersed magnetic properties, showing potential for real applications. The study utilized Langmuir isotherm and pseudo second order kinetic model to describe the adsorption behavior, and demonstrated acceptable performance of the magnetic adsorbents for practical use.
