Investigation of the hydrogeochemistry, groundwater quality, and associated health risks in industrialized regions of Tripura, northeast India

Bishu Karmakar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the groundwater quality in different regions of Tripura, India using statistical and graphical methods, finding that most samples were suitable for drinking but had heavy metal contamination. The research also indicated that children are more susceptible to chronic health risks, with higher risks during the pre-monsoon season.

Intrinsic Vulnerability Evaluation of Groundwater Nitrate Pollution Along a Course of the Subarnarekha River in Jharkhand, India

Sandeep Kumar Gautam et al.

Summary: The assessment of groundwater specific vulnerability is a global challenge due to factors like poor sanitation facilities, excessive use of nitrogen fertilizers, urbanization, and industrialization. The study in India revealed significant spatial and temporal variability in nitrate ion concentration in groundwater, with agriculture being the main contributor to elevated nitrate levels. Maps created for visualization showed that a significant portion of the area falls into the unsafe zone where water is not suitable for direct human consumption.
